In 2014 there was a new National Curriculum launched. Scout Road Academy have adjusted planning and teaching to take account of these changes and are using The White Rose Maths Hub for support and advice. All teaching staff have attended refresher training sessions to keep their skills up to date and linked to current teaching practices. The White Rose Maths Hub is based at Holy Trinity Secondary School and provides support in planning, assessing and resourcing for a mastery approach to teaching mathematics.
Our calculation policy shows how we teach children the four basic operations in maths. We teach through an approach which begins with a concrete concept, through to a pictorial concept and finally to an abstract concept. There is no time limit as to how long individual children spend on each concept, their understanding sets the pace of learning. Our aim is to ensure that every child is challenged within lessons.
