Welcome to Butterfly Class.   

    The Butterfly class consists of year 3 and year 4 pupils. Our teachers are Mrs Matthews and Mrs Normanton who are supported by Mrs Holt, Miss Smith and Miss Armstrong.

 

Our topic this half term is all about 'The Middle Ages'.

Key objectives in Maths this half term:

Maths - Time1 Week 2 Week 3 Week 4 Week 5 Week 6 Week 7 Week 9

Sequence events in chronological order using language e.g. before and after, next, first, today, yesterday, tomorrow, morning, afternoon and evening.

Recognise and use language relating to dates, including days of the week, weeks, months and years.

Tell the time to the hour and half past the hour and draw the hands on a clock face to show these times.

 Tell and write the time to five minutes, including quarter past/to the hour and draw the hands on a clock face to show these times.

Remember the number of minutes in an hour and the number of hours in a day.

Estimate and read time with increasing accuracy to the nearest minute, record and compare time in terms of seconds, minutes and hours, use vocabulary such as o’clock, a.m./p.m., morning, afternoon, noon and midnight.

Know the number of seconds in a minute and the number of days in each month, year and leap year.

Compare durations of events e.g. calculate the time taken by particular events or tasks.

 Read, write and convert time between analogue and digital 12- and 24-hour clocks.

Solve problems involving converting from hours to minutes; minutes to seconds; years to months; weeks to days.

 Geometry

Recognise angles as a property of shape or a description of a turn.

Identify right angles, recognise that two right angles make a half-turn, three make three quarters of a turn and four a complete turn; identify whether angles are greater than or less than a right angle.

Identify acute and obtuse angles and compare and order angles up to two right angles by size.

Identify horizontal and vertical lines and pairs of perpendicular and parallel lines.

Identify lines of symmetry in 2D shapes presented in different orientations.

Complete an simple symmetric figure with respect to a specific line of symmetry.

Draw 2-D shapes

 

 

  General Notices:

Literacy homework is set on Thursdays. Sentences should be handed to Mrs Matthews on Thursday. Spellings must still be learned and the spelling test is on Thursday.

Maths homework is 'time tables' and these are tested every Friday morning along with mental maths.

PE is on Tuesday with Commando Darren  and Wednesday with Mr Hawkins . Please make sure that the children have their names in their PE kit and school uniform.

The children will bring a library book home each Tuesday, to encourage a love of reading.

 

The Butterflies have their own drawer in class to hold their book bag and a peg for their coat and pump bag.

Times tables are tested weekly, every child should know their target. Please aid your child in learning these.
 
Year 3
 
Our curriculum targets are learning to tell the time to the nearest 5 minutes, recognising coins and adding two, two-digit numbers in your head.
 
Year 4
 
Our curriculum targets are learning to tell the time to the nearest minute, subtracting money and subtracting two, two-digit numbers in your head.
 
Literacy:
 
Our curriculum target this half term will be using the apostrophe of contraction.
 
      
 
Homework
 
Ten words are given on a weekly basis and your child should write ten sentences in their homework book each
 
incorporating one of these words.  Spellings are tested on Friday. 
 
 
 
PE
 
This half term we will be doing gymnastics and hockey if the weather permits.
 
Please remember to bring your PE kit in to school at the beginning of the half term. Children need both outdoor and indoor kit (this includes pumps)
 
Creativity
 
 Our topic this half term is 'The Weather', followed by 'The Vikings'. Our topic in science this half term is rocks and soils.
