The topic for the summer term is 'Ancient Egyptians'
We will learn all about the Ancient Egyptians:
-Investigate the men and women who studied the kingdoms and explore their discoveries
-Look at some of the Pharaohs and the development of the pyramids, as well as the mythology that surrounded this early civilisation.
-Look at the role the Nile had in allowing this civilisation to flourish and examine daily life, comparing it to our own.
We will build our knowledge of the period when the Ancient Egyptians were powerful in the world by:
- Comparing the Ancient Egyptian civilisation with the society, climate and terrain of Britain at the time.
- Discovering how the Ancient Egyptian civilisation came to an end and also learn about the evidence of Ancient Egypt that exists in modern Egypt today.
We are really lucky to have been invited to take part for the second year in a project led by The Square Chapel. The project involves actors coming in to class to teach the children the process of a writing a play and then acting the play out. The children are set the challenge of writing short plays (3 - 5mins long). A few of our plays (alongside 3 other schools taking part in the project) will then be chosen by the actors and performed in the Square Chapel for us to watch. I have asked if they could possibly make available the remaining seats in the theatre for any parents that would like to come along (please see dates below). Year 3 / 4 will also be invited along too. If your child's play is chosen to be acted out I will inform you as soon as possible (unfortunately it will be just a few days before the performance). There will also be personal invitations sent to those children whose plays were chosen to watch the plays being performed in the Little Theatre in Hebden.
We will be reading Macbeth and 'My Brother's Ghost' by Allan Ahlberg in the second half term
