The topic for the summer term is 'Mountains, Rivers and Coasts'

In this fascinating topic, you will learn what mountains, rivers and coasts actually are, some of the forces that help create and shape these important features and the effects they have on the world around them. You will learn about the climates, human interactions, and lifestyles shaped by the mountains, rivers and coasts of the world.

We will be reading 'A Journey to the River Sea' by Eva Ibbotson and using it to base our writing on in literacy.

During the summer term we have been invited to take part in a play writing project which is run by The Square Chapel in Halifax. You will have the chance to write your own play after been shown how professional play-writers do it. Some of our plays will then be chosen to be performed at The Square Chapel by a production company - and we will be the audience! If your play is chosen then your family and friends will have the opportunity to purchase tickets to watch your play at the theatre in Hebden during arts week.

Our summer production will be revealed at the end of SATs - you'll learn what your role will be within the production and rehearsals will begin that week!

PE will be on Monday and Tuesday, please make sure your PE kit is in school for the duration of the half term (including jogging bottoms and a bobble for long hair). Please note that earrings must be removed for PE.  On Tuesday lunch times Commando Joe will take children to the field who want to play football (but you must have a change of appropriate footwear and a pair of tracksuit bottoms).
Throughout the summer term Y5 will be attending swimming lessons at Sowerby Bridge Pool. You will need to make sure you bring your swimming kit, towel and goggles (if you wish) every Wednesday. You will leave school at 10:30 and return at 12:30.
We've arranged for a sports coach to come into school on Monday and Thursday lunch times. Our coach will teach sports clubs of your choice - he's here to keep you busy and active at lunch times so please come along and join in.
