Meals and Milk

A healthy lunch helps children stay focused, active and ready to learn. Children can enjoy a nutritious school meal each day, alongside fresh milk for eligible pupils and those registered through the Cool Milk scheme.

What’s for dinner?

We offer a varied menu designed to provide healthy, balanced meals that children enjoy. Menus are planned to meet School Food Standards and include a choice of options to suit a range of tastes and dietary requirements.

Vegetarian and Halal options are available daily. If your child has a food allergy, medical dietary requirement or other specific dietary need, please contact the school office so we can discuss the options available and ensure appropriate arrangements are in place.

Paying for dinners

All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to a free school meal through the Universal Infant Free School Meals scheme. No application is required.

For children in other year groups, school meals cost £3.00 per day.

Payments for school meals are made through Arbor. Charges are automatically added to your child's Arbor account and can be viewed and paid online.

Families receiving certain benefits may be entitled to Free School Meals. Further information is available from Calderdale Council.

Bringing packed lunches and snacks

Some families choose to provide a packed lunch for their child, or a snack for breaktime.

If you do so, please ensure this is nutritious:

  • No sugary or fizzy drinks, or energy drinks

  • No nuts or nut products such as peanut butter (help to keep those with allergies safe)

  • Breaktime snacks should be healthy choices such as fruit or a cereal bar, not sweets or chocolate.

Choosing School Meals or Packed Lunches

To help us plan meal numbers and avoid food waste, we ask families to let us know whether their child will regularly have school meals, packed lunches, or a set combination of both.

If your child follows a regular pattern, please stick to this wherever possible. Occasional changes can usually be accommodated, provided the school office is notified by 9:00am on the day.

For longer-term changes to your child's lunchtime arrangements, please let the school office know in advance so that we can make the necessary arrangements.

Cool milk daily

Milk is a great source of essential nutrients for children, including calcium, protein, and vitamins, which are vital for bone and muscle health, as well as overall growth and development.

Milk is provided free for children under the age of 5, and those entitled to free school meals. It is subsidised for those over 5, and costs around £20 per term.

You must register via the Cool Milk website to ensure your child does not miss out.
