Pupil Premium
At Scout Road, we receive additional government funding to help ensure all children can reach their full potential.
Pupil Premium
The Pupil Premium was introduced by the government in April 2011 to raise the attainment of children from disadvantaged backgrounds. It provides extra money to support pupils who may need additional help, ensuring they have the same opportunities as others.
We think there may be many families who could be eligible but have not applied for a range of reasons.
Who qualifies?
Your child may be eligible for free school meals (and therefore Pupil Premium funding) if you receive any of the following:
Income Support
Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance or Employment and Support Allowance
Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
Child Tax Credit (if not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and with an annual income of no more than £16,190)
Working Tax Credit run-on
Universal Credit
In addition, all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 receive free school meals automatically (universal infant free school meals). However, we still ask parents to register their eligibility so the school can receive the additional Pupil Premium funding.
Benefits of claiming
A healthy, nutritious school meal for your child
Saving money and time for families
Extra funding for the school to provide targeted support, resources and opportunities
How we use the Pupil Premium
We use the funding in ways that have the greatest impact on children’s progress, which may include:
Extra academic support in English and Maths
Pastoral support, mentoring and wellbeing programmes
Specialist staff training
Clubs, trips and enrichment opportunities
Improved resources and learning materials
We never single out or stigmatise children who benefit from this funding.
Why this matters
Pupil Premium plays a vital role in giving every child the best possible start. By registering for free school meals (if eligible), you not only support your child but also help our school secure valuable funding to benefit all pupils.
